Declined cards don't look like abandoned carts anymore

When a card is declined, the customer sees why and can try another card. You see Payment failed, with the reason and a link to resend.

A customer gets to checkout, their card is declined, and they land back on the quote with no message. In your dashboard the order says Abandoned, so it looks like they lost interest. They didn't. They were one card away from paying.

What changed

  • In the widget: the customer sees "Your payment was declined" and a Try another card button. It reopens the same checkout, so you don't get a second order.
  • In Orders: a red Payment failed badge replaces Abandoned for those orders. Once the checkout expires, the order reads Expired.
  • On invoices: the order shows Payment failed, when it failed, and the reason in plain words (expired card, insufficient funds, wrong card details, the bank declined it, or the customer didn't finish card verification). You also get Copy payment link and Email payment link. The invoice stays open, so the customer can pay with the same link.
  • If Stripe's decline notice never reaches us, the widget asks Stripe directly when the customer comes back.

How to use it

  1. Nothing to turn on.
  2. Open Orders and look for Payment failed badges. Those customers were ready to pay, so follow up before the checkout expires.
  3. For an invoice, open the order and hit Email payment link, or copy it into your own follow-up.
