Tax for business customers: excl. tax prices and exemptions
Stripe now always adds tax on top of your quoted price. Label prices excl. tax for business buyers, and mark customers or single quotes tax-exempt.
A business buyer in Germany compares your quote with two others, all before VAT. Yours says €120 and they can't tell whether that includes tax. Meanwhile a school that's tax-exempt wants a quote with no tax on it at all.
First, a heads-up for VAT shops
Stripe checkout and invoices now always add tax on top of your quoted price. Before, if your Stripe account defaulted to tax-inclusive prices (common with EUR or GBP and Stripe Tax on automatic), VAT came out of the quoted number. Now the customer pays the quote plus tax, which matches what the widget has always shown with estimated tax. If your prices had VAT baked in, check them before your next quote goes out.
Say "excl. tax"
Turn on Prices Exclude Tax and the widget totals, the checkout drawer, and the subtotal in quote emails say "excl. tax" (in German "zzgl. MwSt.", in French "HT", and so on).
- Open Settings, then Business Settings, then the Quoting tab.
- Under Prices Exclude Tax, turn on Label prices "excl. tax", then hit Update Settings.
Tax-exempt customers and quotes
- Open Customers and pick the customer.
- Under Tax, turn on Tax-exempt. Checkout and invoices for them charge no tax, and the widget hides estimated tax.
- For a one-off, open the quote and use the Tax dropdown in Customer Details: Customer default, Tax-exempt for this quote, or Charge tax for this quote.

AutoQuote3D doesn't store exemption certificates. Keep those on file yourself.
